Report: Liverpool are preparing a move for 'rapid' player in January, he's been great in the CL this season

Liverpool are preparing a move to sign Shakhtar Donetsk winger Mykhaylo Mudryk.

That’s according to Calciomercato, who claim that the Reds are lining up a bid for the Ukranian during the January transfer window.

Liverpool won’t be alone in their efforts to land Mudryk, though. They’ll reportedly have to do battle with both Arsenal and Sevilla to land him.

Mudryk, who’s just twenty-one, has scored two goals in two games in this season’s Champions League. Already reportedly on the radar of several teams, his displays at the top-level now look to have alerted Liverpool.

Mudryk catching the eye in Europe

It would be no surprise if Liverpool’s heads have been turned by Mudryk’s efforts in the Champions League this season.

In short, he’s looked absolutely electric for Shakhtar. A right-footed winger playing on the left-side, he has more than a whiff of Luis Diaz about him.

Mudryk’s pace and ability to use it whilst dribbling frightened the life out of RB Leipzig on matchday 1. He scored a lovely, arrowed finish with his left foot and laid on two assists for his teammates as Shakhtar won 4-1.

The youngster then followed that up with another left-footed goal to top a lively display against Celtic last week. It was after that game that Chris Sutton took to Twitter to label Mudryk as being ‘rapid.’

It’s true that Liverpool aren’t exactly short of players to fill that left-sided slot right now. Diaz is making it his own, while both Diogo Jota and even Darwin Nunez could play there to good effect.

Given Mudryk’s apparent ability with his weaker foot though, maybe he could even fill in for Mohamed Salah on the opposite side.

Whatever he does in the Champions League between now and January, the Ukraine international looks set to move on in the near future. Let’s see whether Liverpool are impressed by his obvious talents enough to try their luck this winter.
