'Leader' now scores vital goal to continue his incredible form after Liverpool's reported £86m offer

Real Madrid’s Fede Valverde continues his brilliant form this weekend with a goal against Atletico Madrid. Liverpool reportedly bid for him.

Fede Valverde scored for Real Madrid in midweek and he’s done it again this weekend. The Uruguayan scored Real’s second in their derby with Atletico Madrid – a goal that proved to be the winner as Los Blancos triumphed 2-1.

Valverde, once again lining up on the right-hand side, showed his goalscoring instincts are improving. This time is was a relatively simple finish after the ball rebounded off the post for him. Valverde was on hand to put it away.

Liverpool, presumably watching closely, won’t know whether to smile or cry.

Fede Valverde continues brilliant form

AS reported this week that Liverpool tried to sign Valverde at the transfer deadline. The Reds wanted a midfielder and would eventually sign Arthur Melo.

It appears that Valverde was much higher on their list, though. Liverpool didn’t propose a loan, either – they informally offered £86m. That’s the kind of money you put down for a dream signing, not simply a last-minute panic buy.

Real said no, of course. We’ve been holding out hope that their stance is only temporary, however, as there’s talk that they want Jude Bellingham. Valverde would be the most obvious casualty of that, with Eduardo Camavinga and Aurélien Tchouaméni shining in the middle.

But Valverde just keeps impressing and it looks unlikely that Real would give up on him. Even for £86m. The Uruguayan seemingly does everything now, scoring goals and being a ‘leader’, in the words of Carlo Ancelotti.

Liverpool are also heavily linked with a move for Bellingham. A move for Valverde felt like a perfect alternative if Real did win that race but maybe a better option has turned up. Real may not move for Bellingham at all at this rate, with Valverde looking more than good enough to be a long-term option for them.

Maybe that clears the way for Liverpool to get their no.1 target.
