Report: Club are already looking to replace 'exceptional' player who joined from Liverpool this year

AC Milan are looking to replace Divock Origi, according to reports. The striker only just joined them from Liverpool on a free transfer.

This comes from Calciomercato. They claim that AC Milan have drawn up a shortlist to replace Divock Origi as their striker.

Lille’s Jonathan David and RB Salzburg’s Noah Okafor top that list. The two strikers are two of the most interesting young options in Europe and Milan could start making moves in January.

This comes as Origi consistently struggles for fitness. The Belgian only joined them in the summer on a free transfer but hasn’t made any sort of impact since. Despite looking like a steal for Milan, Origi’s problems could force them into an expensive winter transfer.

Milan looking to replace Divock Origi

Well, no one could honestly call this a shock. Origi long struggled with injuries while at Liverpool and essentially never managed to hold down a consistent place in the side.

Those problems stretch back to 2016, when Jurgen Klopp had Origi as his primary striker. A wonderful stretch of form followed, only for an injury to put him out for a month. The Belgian never really got his place back and was forever an impact sub from then on.

What an impact sub Origi was, though. The striker carved out a reputation as a club legend for his exploits, even as a backup player. His record was fantastic in limited minutes and everyone was sad to see him leave in the summer. This was a player Jurgen Klopp once labelled ‘exceptional’, after all, and here he was departing for free.

But it seems that Origi really can’t be anything other than a rarely-seen impact sub. His injury problems prevent him from playing regularly once again – those issues followed him from Merseyside to Milan.
