Voetbal Primeur report that complications at Schiphol airport have Ajax fans stranded. They’re trying to get to their meeting with Liverpool tonight, of course, but it appears many won’t.
Labour shortages are the root of the issue – something that’s affecting airports across the world right now. It’s also something that’s hard to fix on short notice.
“We want our fans at Anfield and I think the situation should be better,” says Dusan Tadic on the problem. “[The fans that have made it] have to do what they always do and give us energy. We have incredibly good fans.”
Ajax fans struck by airport problems
Well, Liverpool will take any advantage they possibly can right now and here’s a minor one. It seems Ajax won’t be able to create the atmosphere they’d like in response to the Anfield crowd.
But at the end of the day, it’s a disappointment. Ajax are one of the most prestigious clubs on the planet and you always hope for an intense atmosphere against them. These troubles rob us of that, though.
It just seems that Liverpool can’t get a proper game going at the moment. Saturday’s meeting with Wolves was called off, of course, as is the visit to Stamford Bridge this Sunday. It means this game with Ajax is the Reds’ first game for a week and their last before October – the international break is about to kick in, after all.
So it’s a shame that the atmosphere won’t be what it could be. We’ll just cross our fingers that Liverpool can at least get a win so we don’t have to stew on a defeat for the next few weeks.
