Bolton Wanderers boss Ian Evatt has said that Liverpool youngster Owen Beck isn’t ready to make his debut just yet.
Speaking this weekend via the Liverpool Echo, Evatt said that the on-loan Liverpool player isn’t quite up to speed physically.
“He’s [Beck’s] getting there. Physically, he wasn’t where we needed him to be because playing wing-back for me is probably the most difficult position, it is the most physically demanding and you have to be really, really fit,” he claimed.
“I think he was not at the required level but I think he’s getting there fast. I think the last couple of days training have done him the world of good and I’m starting to see what he can really do now, which is really good.”

Beck getting ready to bounce back
It would have been nice if Beck had been able to hit the ground running in the way that fellow Reds loanee Conor Bradley has. After a failed move to Portugal this summer, he needs a better spell at Bolton.
Hopefully Evatt’s insistence on getting the 20-year-old ready for the role will do him good in the long run.
Rather than throw him in undercooked, the coach is making sure the youngster is given all the tools he can to be properly prepare.

In the meantime, it will do Beck good to have his mate Bradley around. Having to up-sticks from a loan spell abroad before the transfer window was even over could knock his confidence badly.
It’s important that he isn’t rushed back into action. If he is, then there could be a risk of damaging his self-esteem further.
Judging from Evatt’s words, it won’t be too long before we see what Beck can do in senior football. The Welsh prospect performed well whenever given the chance for Liverpool, hopefully he can push on after he’s settled in.
