Barcelona hope Gavi will renew his contract this month, according to reports. It comes as the likes of Liverpool continue to show interest.
This comes from Mundo Deportivo. They claim that Barcelona want Gavi’s contract sorted before September is out – but it might have to be sooner.
Gavi will join up with Spain for the international break, meaning this week feels like a bit of a deadline. If things stretch on further, there will be genuine questions asked over the feasibility of any deal. The teenager’s deal expires at the end of the season and Bayern Munich, Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain all have interest.
Barcelona are running out of time to show Gavi that they’ll give him what he wants.
Gavi could renew contract this month
Barcelona reportedly agreed on a new contract for Gavi quite some time ago. Financial difficulties, however, have meant that nothing is finalised. And that’s starting to look like a problem for them.
If they can’t get it done by the end of September, when will they? That’s the question that Gavi and his people will ask – and it’s why interest from Europe’s major clubs won’t go away. Until things are signed, it remains very viable that the player leaves next year.

Gavi is one of Europe’s brightest young players and is conceivably available for free in 2023. Barcelona cannot afford to lose him and there’s little doubt that his contract is a priority. That doesn’t mean they can get this one over the line, though.
After all, Lionel Messi left Barcelona – anything is possible here. It’s encouraging to see Liverpool continue to be named as involved, too. We think he’d be a sensational addition to the squad, especially if it can happen without a transfer fee.
As much as Gavi wants to renew with the Catalonians, they fail to show that they can give him what he wants. Perhaps Liverpool can capitalise.
