‘It doesn’t happen’: Pundit thinks it’s ‘insane’ what people are now saying about Liverpool

Robbie Fowler believes people are ‘insane’ to believe this is the end of an era at Liverpool. The Reds are struggling right now.

The 9-0 win over Bournemouth aside, you can watch any Liverpool game this season and see that something is wrong. The Reds just aren’t themselves, struggling to control games as they did and lacking their famous intensity.

That inevitably leads to talking and some are ready to write the obituary of this team. Liverpool, after all, have an ageing squad and one that has played at the highest level for years now. It can’t last forever.

But Robbie Fowler feels that talk is premature. He thinks there must be other reasons for the struggles – a team doesn’t slip this far in such a short period.

“In the insane parallel universe of social media it’s ‘obviously’ down to the end of a era, the disintegration of the Klopp empire, the collapse of his team as a force, or whatever,” he told the Mirror.

“In real life, IT DOESN’T HAPPEN IN SEVEN GAMES. I thought I’d cap that up for the hard of thinking. Nine games ago, Liverpool were on the verge of a historic quadruple and the undisputed title of the greatest team of all time.

“Now, seven games into a new season they’re finished as a force? It doesn’t happen like that. Great teams do decline, but it’s over years, not days.”

Not the end of the Liverpool era

Fowler went on to suggest some actual reasons for Liverpool’s decline and we’re fully in agreement with him. This squad of players has a lot more to give – they’re far from finished.

The actual problem is largely that Liverpool can’t create with the ball, nor play through the opposition press. Mohamed Salah is the finest example of this as he’s no longer receiving the ball in the right areas.

The Egyptian is still playing brilliantly, though. He’s created more chances than any other Premier League player, it’s just that he’s doing it out of necessity rather than design. Liverpool are relying on him to make things happen for others, rather than giving him actual opportunities to score.

That’s a sign that the team isn’t functioning properly, not that they’re suddenly past it. If they were playing the exact same way and finding it no longer works, then we’d have a problem. As it is, Liverpool need a rethink tactically because there’s been a shift this season that isn’t working.
