'Absolutely below': Jurgen Klopp says only three Liverpool players were at their level vs Napoli

Jurgen Klopp believes only three Liverpool players showed their level vs Napoli last week. The rest were simply not good enough.

Liverpool were atrocious against Napoli, as you might have seen. The Reds just couldn’t handle anything that the Italians threw at them, struggling in virtually every facet of their game.

Napoli were easily able to stop passes through midfield. Their counter-attacks weren’t met with much resistance. We saw them tackle Liverpool’s defenders on multiple occasions.

All in all, Liverpool were awful. In fact, Jurgen Klopp believes only three of his players came away from that game with any sort of pride. Not that they played at their best but they were the only ones who actually played to the required level.

“I think that’s not a common thing [playing that poorly], that’s more an individual thing because I think pretty much eight out of 11 were absolutely below their level which they usually can play,” said Klopp, per Liverpoolfc.com.

“And the three others were not on top level, just a normal game, I would say.”

Klopp blasts Liverpool players for performance vs Napoli

Klopp doesn’t name who those three players are but it doesn’t take much to figure it out. Luis Diaz, for instance, was clearly Liverpool’s best player on the night and scored the Reds’ goal.

Alisson Becker didn’t do anything wrong, either – in fact, he stopped the scoreline from being an even bigger embarrassment. The goalkeeper simply had no protection in front of him, especially in the first half.

As for the third player, that’s up for debate. We imagine Klopp is talking about Harvey Elliott, though. The teenager’s expected level isn’t as high as the rest, given his inexperience. His performance wasn’t completely shocking, either, which is more than can be said for most.

So while we’re guessing, we imagine those are the three players Klopp is talking about. Everyone else had a nightmare, really. We can only hope the defeat jolts things back into life – or brings about major changes.
