Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford has admitted that Liverpool counterpart Alisson Becker was brilliant in today’s Merseyside Derby.
Pickford was arguably the best player on the pitch, making eight saves to hold Liverpool to a 0-0 draw. But whilst picking up his Man of the Match award from BT Sport after the game, the goalie said the Liverpool player was ‘wonderful’ as well.
“It was good. Alisson made some wonderful saves as well, but that’s our job, to help the team when needed,” said the England ‘keeper.
Alisson made four saves himself, including one massive one-on-one stop against Neal Maupay. A frustrating result for Liverpool, but they came up against a goalkeeper in inspired form.

Liverpool not convincing in-front of goal
It was far from a convincing performance from Liverpool yet again on Saturday afternoon. Yes, they had chances to score, but they failed to dominate the game for huge stretches.
Whilst creating plenty, they also somehow didn’t have any clear-cut opportunities either. Most of Pickford’s saves were from snapshots from the Liverpool forwards.
Despite fielding all five attackers at one stage or another, The Reds didn’t look at their most threatening.
It may be a case of rustiness for both Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez. Jota got his first minutes since playing for Portugal at the end of last season, while it was only Nunez’s second start of the season.

Things should hopefully click soon, but in the meantime Liverpool can’t keep dropping points.
As per Fotmob, Liverpool had an expected goal score of 2.02 at Goodison. To come away without a single goal from that, with the points they’ve already dropped, simply isn’t good enough
Of course, Pickford takes some credit for that. But Liverpool are already looking a little far adrift for a title challenge. More than that though, the performances are still leaving a lot to be desired. A trip to Napoli now awaits, maybe a welcome break from Premier League football for The Reds.
