Jurgen Klopp did have a favourite goal out of Liverpool’s nine vs Bournemouth at the weekend. But not for the reasons you’d think.
Liverpool scored nine at the weekend – and several of them were simply fantastic goals. Trent Alexander-Arnold’s stood out as a brilliant long-range strike after a one-two with Roberto Firmino.
But that wasn’t Jurgen Klopp’s favourite of the nine. The Liverpool boss loved Harvey Elliott’s goal, the Reds’ second, but not for the reasons you’d think.
“My favourite goal from all the nine was actually Harvey Elliott’s goal,” he told a press conference. “It was a beauty but not because of that. Because we were that close together, we were that connected that we could react that quick.”

It makes sense. Not only was this a goal from before Bournemouth’s utter collapse but it was the perfect response to the Manchester United defeat.
Liverpool were perfect between the lines, always offering options and threatening from every area. Roberto Firmino help a run to find space for a Mohamed Salah pass. The Brazilian’s first touch wasn’t ideal but Elliott was there to pounce on the split-second of hesitation from everyone else.
That’s perfect and exactly what Liverpool want to see. The Old Trafford display saw a mess of an attack, with a complete failure to connect with one another. Wingers were too wide, Firmino was too deep and Elliott struggled to find his own space.
But on Saturday, and with this goal, Liverpool found their groove again. The big question now will be whether the Reds can carry that over to Wednesday evening against Newcastle United. It’s all well and good showcasing perfection in one game but Klopp wants that consistency over the season.
The fact they quickly learned their lesson from the United defeat is a great sign, though. We expect Newcastle aren’t feeling too confident.
