Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has suggested that midfielder Bruno Guimaraes won’t play against Liverpool on Wednesday.

In quotes from the Newcastle Chronicle, Howe said that Bruno had picked up a niggle which kept him out of yesterday’s draw with Wolves.

“He has a slight niggle and I don’t think it’s anything serious. We hope he won’t miss too much. Liverpool might be too soon,” said the Magpies coach.

The Brazilian is a key man for Newcastle. They do have other options, but his absence would undoubtedly be a big blow as they head to Anfield on Wednesday night.

Reds looking to hit form back at Anfield

Wednesday’s meeting comes hot on the heels of Liverpool’s 9-0 win on Saturday. After such a good result at the weekend, it’ll serve Liverpool well to be back at Anfield once again.

The atmosphere should be good under the lights as The Reds look to properly kick-start their season.

Newcastle will pose a pretty stern test even without the £40m Bruno. They’re unbeaten in the Premier League so far this season and gave Manchester City a real scare last weekend.

But Liverpool’s tails should be up. They can’t afford to drop too many more points early on in the season and, as always, will look to win all of their home games.

Jurgen Klopp suggested last week that he may be able to call on one or two more faces from this week. We’ll wait for further news if any of his first-team players have returned ahead of the game.

As for Newcastle, they’ll definitely be without key striker Callum Wilson. It remains to be seen whether new signing Alexander Isak will get the clearance needed to play at Anfield.

Should they be missing that pair, as well as Bruno, their threat will be seriously dismissed. Liverpool should focus on themselves though, they’ll need to keep levels high to get the result they need.
