James Milner achieved a remarkable feat in the 83rd minute of Liverpool’s 9-0 win vs Bournemouth this weekend. The vice-captain shows unbelievable longevity.
James Milner came off the bench for Liverpool on Saturday as they won 9-0 vs Bournemouth. The player was unfortunate not to score, too – he nearly found the net for a 10th late on.
And on a remarkable day for the Reds, Milner managed to achieve his own historic feat. Bobby Clark came on for Liverpool on the 83rd minute for his debut, replacing Trent Alexander-Arnold.
In doing so, Milner and Clark shared the pitch as Liverpool players for the first time. As pointed out by writer Mark Carruthers, this comes 17 years and three days after Milner did the same with Lee Clark, Bobby’s father.
Milner and Lee Clark were both substitutes for Newcastle United back in 2005. They came on in a 2-0 defeat to Bolton Wanderers.
That would be Clark Sr.’s final professional season, having returned to Newcastle at the start of that season. Milner, on the other hand, played three times for the Magpies that month before joining Aston Villa on loan for the rest of the campaign.

It’s quite an incredible feat by Milner and just shows how long he’s been around. Once the Premier League’s youngest-ever goalscorer, the 36-year-old is just a few months away from 20 years of top-flight football.
His debut for Leeds United came on November10th 2002 – so that’ll be a true milestone date for Milner this year.
What a career it’s been, of course. Leeds, Newcastle, Villa, Manchester City and Liverpool have all gotten the best of Milner over the last 20 years, a career that now literally spans generations.
Perhaps the most remarkable thing, however, is that Liverpool still rely on him.
