Jurgen Klopp has called Harvey Elliott ‘a special player’ after he scored in Liverpool’s 9-0 obliteration of Bournemouth today.

Speaking via BBC Sport, Klopp praised the Liverpool youngster for the way he took his goal. Klopp also shared his delight at the way Liverpool kept their foot on the peddle throughout the game.

“We scored wonderful goals. The game settled and we kept scoring. It was about keep going. Not to humiliate Bournemouth, we couldn’t respect them more.

“It’s about putting the opponent under pressure. I could bring on the kids, they deserve it so much. Harvey is a special player, wonderful goal. Everything was perfect pretty much,” said the Liverpool boss.

Liverpool shake off early season rust to flatten Bournemouth

Elliott’s goal was arguably the pivotal moment in the game. After taking an early lead at Anfield, Liverpool could have sat back and taken a breather.

But instead, The Reds’ pushed Bournemouth even harder. By the time Elliott swept home Roberto Firmino’s lay-off on seven minutes, the game was already beyond the visitors.

That completely set the tone for Liverpool’s performance all afternoon. Having failed abjectly in their opening three Premier League games, all the players’ frustration was taken out on the Cherries.

It does beg the question of why Liverpool had been so poor up until today. The team only contained one change from the one that surrendered so meekly against Manchester United. But the performances were night and day.

Had Liverpool played with the same intensity in all of their games so far, they’d likely have collected full points.

That can’t be changed now, the points have sailed on by. But The Reds’ can ensure that they approach every game like the one today for the rest of the season.

As players return from injury, things will become easier. With this kind of performance in their locker though, there’s no reason Liverpool should be too concerned about squad depth.
