Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has claimed that Liverpool played the best football in the world last season.

Speaking via Football Daily, ten Hag praised Liverpool for their style of football over the last year.

“Liverpool is, especially last year, the best playing football team for me in the world,” said the United boss. “When you beat them it must give you a lot of confidence, that’s clear.”

Liverpool were indeed electrifying at times last season. We’re still waiting for The Reds to truly ignite this time around, but when they click, they really click.

Liverpool looking to find their mojo again

Liverpool have been held up as an example for every team to follow for some time now. For the last five years or so, they’ve been playing some exceptional football.

That doesn’t happen every week of course, that’s pretty much impossible. But The Reds have generally struck a lovely balance between playing beautiful football and winning.

So far this season, neither have happened. The campaign is young though, and every game is another chance for things to fall into place.

This week, Liverpool take on Bournemouth at Anfield. As another side who are likely to come and sit deep against them, it could give The Reds’ the opportunity to have plenty of time on the ball.

They must use that time to good effect. If we see another slow start at Anfield tomorrow afternoon, things may get twitchy in the crowd.

Whether that’s right or wrong is up for debate. But Liverpool can’t give their opponents any encouragement. They must take the game out of their reach and then keep it there.

After a few less than convincing displays, every Liverpool supporter will be hoping the kind of football that ten Hag was referring to is back on the menu tomorrow.
