Report: Liverpool target is now expected to move this week, the Reds have their chance to sign 25-year-old

Liverpool have their last chance at signing Carlos Soler, according to reports. Valencia plan to sell the player this week.

This comes from Marca. They claim that Valencia want to sell Carlos Soler before the transfer window closes, giving them a week to do so.

That has certain clubs interested. Paris Saint-Germain are supposedly one of those, though Soler’s people have also told Real Madrid about his situation. The player’s contract expires in 2023 and Real will likely wait to try and pick him up for free.

But anyone offering money to Valencia this week will almost certainly find it accepted. They want to sell and that hands an opportunity to any club seeking a new midfielder.

Liverpool get last chance at Carlos Soler

Golsmedia in Spain claimed earlier this year that Liverpool want Soler. No, it’s not exactly the strongest source in the world but the transfer would make some sense.

Soler is still only 25 and just entering his prime. Throw in his discounted last-year-of-the-contract price and Liverpool could potentially pick up a bargain.

They sorely lack players in that age bracket, after all. There’s a six-year gap between Curtis Jones at 21 and Naby Keita at 27, for instance. No player sits in between those ages.

And as we’ve written before, Soler could be a good fit to replace Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. He’s versatile, able to play wide or centrally and generally provides creativity from either position.

But we won’t count on this one happening. As we say, the source isn’t great and we’re not convinced that Soler is really what Liverpool need right now. They could use a deeper midfielder – someone who starts attacks as Thiago does.

Soler is a fine attacking midfielder but is far less involved than most midfielders in Europe. He also creates a lot from set-pieces – but not at the rate of Trent Alexander-Arnold. So we’re not sure he’s what Liverpool actually need.

But if the Reds do rate him, Soler is a cheap addition who would certainly add a talented player in the right age bracket.
