Liverpool playmaker Fabio Carvalho remains in awe of Anfield after making his debut there last week. The youngster says it’s ‘crazy’.

Fabio Carvalho stepped out onto the Anfield pitch for the first time last week as the Reds hosted Crystal Palace. It wasn’t a game that went to plan, of course – Darwin Nunez was sent-off as Liverpool dropped two points – but it was still a memorable one for Carvalho.

The youngster waxed lyrical about the stadium to Liverpoolfc.com, saying he’s never seen anything like it.

“When I first stepped into Anfield, I’ve never seen anything like it,” said Carvalho. “I’m not just saying that because obviously, I’m at Liverpool now.

“The crowd, the stadium, the fans… just thinking about it now, it’s just crazy.

“There’s nothing like the Liverpool fans because they just support you through thick and thin. It’s the 12th man, it’s literally the 12th man because they keep us going.”

It’s fantastic to see Anfield make such an impression on Carvalho. It’s also great that he immediately felt the boost that the stadium gives to Liverpool. In fact, despite the draw, that Palace game was a fine example of it.

Liverpool were struggling to reply to Wilfried Zaha’s goal and things looked dire when Nunez walked. But the reaction from the fans and the players combined to lift the tempo by several levels.

Luis Diaz provided a magnificent equaliser on the back of that and 10-man Liverpool dominated the game. It’s just a shame that they couldn’t find a second.

Liverpool return to Anfield on Saturday as they host Bournemouth. It’ll be a wonderful chance to register the first win of the Premier League campaign, and we wonder if Carvalho is in line for a start. Hopefully, Jurgen Klopp gives him the full 90 minutes to experience that atmosphere up close.
