Crawley Town have sent Liverpool a cheeky proposal to keep loan youngster James Balagizi ‘forever.’
Balagizi scored his third goal in three games last night. And this was a famous one too, the second in a surprise 2-0 win over Premier League side Fulham.
After the game, Crawley sent Liverpool a message on Twitter to ask if they could keep the 18-year-old for the long-term.
“LFC, can we keep him forever, please?” they wrote, with a picture of Balagizi being mobbed during the full-time pitch invasion. Great work, James!
Balagizi already flourishing at Crawley
A few eyebrows were raised when it was confirmed that Balagizi would head to League Two for the season.
There are high expectations of the teenager, and the hope was that he could maybe join a club at a higher level.
So far though, Crawley have proven to be an excellent match for Balagizi. The midfielder has already established himself as a starter for Town, and is flourishing with the responsibility.
Three goals in six games is a great return for such a young player entering men’s football for the first time.
It may have been a second-string Fulham side last night, but they are still a Premier League team. The back four was made up of proven players like Shane Duffy, Issa Diop and Kevin Mbabu.
To score against them, as well as ‘keeper Marek Rodak, is a feather in Balagizi’s cap.
The challenge now is to keep up this good form for a full season. No one’s expecting the youngster to be Man of the Match every week. But to show that he looks a cut above at this level is really encouraging.
