‘I believe’: Alisson now makes claim about what Liverpool did in training before Manchester United game

Alisson Becker has claimed that Liverpool trained well ahead of being beaten 2-1 by Manchester United last night.

The Reds were disappointing all over the field and were deservedly beaten at Old Trafford. But despite the sluggish performance, Alisson told LFCTV that the team were well prepared ahead of the game.

“We knew that they could play like that. We prepared the game for different situations but sometimes in the match you have to adapt to the team. But we knew already, we trained and prepared the game thinking in different possibilities and I believe we were well prepared for the match,” said the 29-year-old.

However, the goalie did admit that the Liverpool plan could have been executed far better.

“We could execute better the way we prepared for the game on the pitch, making better choices, making better moves as well and being a little bit more aggressive in a good way defensive wise,” he said.

Liverpool’s preparations go out the window at Old Trafford

You would think that preparation would never be a problem for Liverpool. As any top team is in football these days, they’re meticulous in their analysis of the opposition, as well as their own game.

In people like Pep Lijnders, Vitor Matos and Jurgen Klopp himself, they have incredible tactical brains in the staff.

The group have been together for a long time and know what to expect from each other. They’ve also routinely been to big grounds, like Old Trafford, and come away with a win.

As a result, nothing that happened last night should have been a surprise for them.

Instead, and perhaps more worryingly, the malaise looks to have set in due to attitude issues. Whether it’s complacency or merely mental fatigue, the Liverpool players look shockingly passive.

In a huge game like the one last night, without a win yet to their name, they shouldn’t have needed any more motivation.

And yet, some of the Liverpool players looked like they’d rather be anywhere else in the world.

That isn’t something we’re used to seeing too often from these players. The preparation won’t change, it will still be as good as ever. But if the players don’t start to show a little more character, results like this will happen again.
