Jurgen Klopp is a big fan of the ‘special’ skill that Luis Diaz can do. The Liverpool winger is really making a name for himself.

One year ago, we considered it practically impossible that anyone could replace Sadio Mané. It does feel like Luis Diaz is well on his way, though – the Colombian is a sensation.

Jurgen Klopp certainly sees how ‘special’ his winger is. The Liverpool boss raved about Diaz in an interview with Sky Sports this week, believing he has a skill that few strikers do.

“It’s his quality, his talent, his skillset,” said Klopp. “He’s a really good player. We knew it before and when you’re really good it’s easier to settle in.

“He has this special thing: He can score from outside the box, which for a striker is really important. He’s very, very important for us.”

The ‘special’ skill Luis Diaz can do

We saw Diaz score from outside the box against Crystal Palace, of course, and in spectacular fashion. That goal was the epitome of the player. really.

Diaz dribbled past players wonderfully, changing direction in a flash before thundering an effort into the far corner. It was magic and exactly what Liverpool needed in the game. The goal was even better every time you watched it.

Having that kind of quality in your forward line is a luxury, certainly – Diaz can score from nearly anywhere. But one of the most notable thing in Klopp’s comments is that he labels Diaz a striker.

That shines a light on just how Klopp sees his system. There are three strikers out there, rather than one central striker and two wingers. We wonder what that means for Diaz long-term, too, as the boss has previously talked about using him as a central player.

Certainly, the Colombian has the quality to succeed there and his ability to score from outside the box is a big part of that.
