Danny Murphy believes that ‘every’ Man United fan wants to have Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp in charge right now. They did once try, of course.
Liverpool play Manchester United at Old Trafford on Monday and once again, there’s a new manage in the home dugout. Erik Ten Hag will be the fifth different United boss that Jurgen Klopp faces since joining Liverpool in 2015.
There’s been a complete contrast between the two, in other words. The Reds boast incredible stability and United the opposite. That’s the primary reason that Danny Murphy believes ‘every’ United fan would love to have Klopp in charge.
“The biggest compliment I can give Jurgen Klopp is that every Manchester United fan who barracks him tomorrow night would actually love to have him at Old Trafford,” Murphy wrote for the Daily Mail.
There’s little doubt Klopp’s move to Liverpool in 2015-16 instead of replacing Louis van Gaal at Old Trafford — as United had considered — has changed the history of both clubs.
“I’m convinced if Klopp were manager of United, they wouldn’t have gone five years without a trophy — and Liverpool wouldn’t have won everything, unless they’d somehow managed to get Pep Guardiola instead!”
Not every Man United fan wants Jurgen Klopp
Klopp almost certainly would have done well for United but it’s not a sure thing. The problems at that club go far beyond the manager – far, far beyond – as shown by both Van Gaal and José Mourinho failing there. The experience between those two should have seen one of them work.

And they have completely different playing styles – how could they both fail? It’s the background at the club that’s the problem and Klopp would have run into that, too.
But we can almost guarantee that few United fans would clamour for Klopp right now. We imagine they dislike him strongly. No Liverpool fan would have taken Alex Ferguson on back when things were tough at Anfield, after all.
At the end of the day, United tried to get Klopp and he said no – for a reason. He didn’t see it working there and everything that has happened since suggests he’s right.
