On-loan Liverpool midfielder Leighton Clarkson was in the headlines again today after scoring another brilliant goal for Aberdeen.
Clarkson scored a belter on his debut two weeks ago, and the Liverpool youngster scored another screamer this afternoon. Lining up a free-kick 25-yards or so out, the 20-year-old bent it majestically into the top corner.
Aberdeen were clearly delighted with the strike, which turned out to be the winning goal. Taking to Twitter during the game, the Reds wrote that “Leighton only scores wonder goal.”
A terrific start to Clarkson’s season in the Scottish Premier League. Keep it going, Leighton!
Clarkson shining in Scotland
What a difference a year can make. This time last year, Clarkson was struggling to find his feet in the Championship with Blackburn Rovers.
After subsequently cutting short his spell, the youngster’s prospects of making it at Liverpool looked virtually over.
That may still be the case. But with two sensational goals in his first two games for Aberdeen, he will have at least made the coaches at Liverpool sit up and take notice.
Even before the season started, Jurgen Klopp was still clearly keeping an eye on Clarkson in training. There’s a reason the manager was keen to include him in the first-team at eighteen, and he’s once again showing it.

Of course, it’s still a long season. If the midfielder starts to rest on his laurels then it’ll be nothing more than a good start.
But there’s something in the swagger that Clarkson is currently playing with that suggests he’s ready to really make his mark North of the border.
It’s unlikely that he can keep scoring these kind of howitzer’s with this level of frequency. But he’s now ensured that he’ll be in Aberdeen’s starting eleven for the immediate future.
That’s the first step of any successful loan spell. With that now surely achieved, he can hopefully kick on and continue his progression. After a lost year for Clarkson last season, it’s brilliant to see him doing so well.
