New Liverpool signing Fabio Carvalho was punished by his teammates after losing a shooting challenge in training.
As seen on LFCTV’s Inside Training video, The Reds took part in a drill at the end of the session. The aim of the game seemed to be not to enter the area whilst taking a shot.
Unfortunately for Carvalho, he fell foul of the rule. The 19-year-old still buried his shot, but it was deemed just inside the area by his Liverpool teammates, with Mohamed Salah leading the calls.
As a result, Carvalho received a flick to the ear from Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Kostas Tsimikas and Darwin Nunez. Better luck next time, Fabio!
Liverpool yet to find their shooting boots
Despite Carvalho’s last strike getting him into trouble, the youngster looked sharp from the footage on offer. It was also good to see fellow new signing Nunez stick away some tidy finishes during the game.
Mohamed Salah also looked alive, and Virgil Van Dijk smashed in some blistering finishes, too.
It all bodes well as Liverpool travel to Manchester United on Monday, a side who they had their shooting boots on against last season. The Reds stuck 9 past United in their two games against them in 2021/22. No side had ever done that before.
The law of averages suggests that it’s highly unlikely that Liverpool will be quite so prolific against the same opposition again. But they could really do with being.
Against Crystal Palace on Monday night, Liverpool were guilty of wasting several excellent chances. In the end, that came back to haunt them as they had to settle for a point.
Now, United might be struggling at the moment, but they do posses some brilliant finishers in their team. Let’s not forget, they do employ Cristiano Ronaldo after all.
If Liverpool don’t find their range, they could be punished severely at the other end. After a sluggish start to the season, they can’t afford to lose any more ground on Manchester City.
Good finishing could be the difference between winning, losing and drawing on Monday. Let’s get as much practice in as we can between now and then.
