Jurgen Klopp says Mohamed Salah returned to Liverpool this summer with an improved ability with his right-foot.
Speaking to Sky Sports before Liverpool take on Manchester United on Monday, Klopp joked that Salah had ‘found a right foot’ on holiday.
“I think he found a right foot on holiday. He always develops, it’s really crazy,” said Klopp. “I know a few years back he arrived and usually when a player comes from outside inside they use the inside of the foot to spin the ball and all of a sudden he had the full throttle – the Chelsea goal is a pretty remarkable one. This year he arrived with crosses with his right foot.
“He’s obviously a top professional and he really tries to add on things into his game. He is a top, top, top striker and with the numbers he had, not only scoring-wise but assisting-wise as well, it’s big.”
Salah keeps on improving(!)
Salah’s desire for self-improvement is legendary at this point. The 30-year-old is a relentless athlete who is never satisfied with what he’s achieving.
Mo holds himself to such high standards, which has obviously led to huge expectations of him. To his eternal credit, he manages to not only hit, but exceed those expectations pretty much every season.
Having signed a new contract in the summer, those expectations will now be even higher than ever.
Salah has got off to a good start, with a goal and an assist in the two Premier League games already. But his shooting was slightly off on Monday night against Crystal Palace. He could have scored twice and that will bother him.
Luckily, next up is his favourite opponent. Salah has scored nine times against Manchester United for Liverpool. That’s his joint most alongside Watford and West Ham United.
Amazingly five of those came last season, and three the season before. In his first two seasons at Liverpool, United were a bit of a bogey side for Salah. He didn’t score against them at all until that goal at The Kop end in 2019.
That’s all changed now, though. Mo scored a lovely dink with his right boot to complete his hat-trick at Old Trafford last season. Another on Sunday wouldn’t go amiss. You wouldn’t put it past him.
