Fabio Carvalho has said that has actually known Liverpool teammate Harvey Elliott a little longer than we might think.

Speaking to liverpoolfc.com, Carvalho was asked how it is to be back playing with Elliott again. After declaring his delight, he then revealed that the Liverpool pair actually went to school together when they were younger.

“It’s been sick! We played for the same team growing up but we also went to the same school, which is something that some people might not know,” said the 19-year-old. “So me and him have been tight for a few years now, since a young age. It’s good to be back with him and it’s good to be playing football with him as well because that’s something I really enjoy. He’s a top player.”

Now that must have been some school team!

Carvalho and Elliott take first steps at Liverpool together

Although Elliott has now been a Liverpool player for three years, it feels like his first season as a proper first-team player.

Yes, he started last season in Jurgen Klopp first eleven, but that was a big surprise at the time. This year, it’s expected that he’ll get a lot of minutes as part of the senior team.

In that respect, he and Carvalho are very much taking the step together. Although he’s still yet to turn twenty, the Portugal U21 star will also be part of Klopp’s seniors.

That has been nicely demonstrated with an appearance from the bench in all three Liverpool games so far this season.

In that time, it’s been difficult for him to really show what he can do. With Liverpool struggling to get their best players on the pitch together, they haven’t fully got going.

The Community Shield game aside, Carvalho has been introduced at a time when his new team are chasing the game.

Despite that, he’s still shown some nice touches and been compared to David Beckham. He almost even scored a Kop end winner on Monday as his left-footed volley flashed wide of the post. That would have been special.

This is just the beginning for him though, and for Elliott. As injuries take hold of the Liverpool squad, it could be a good opportunity for them both to truly announce themselves as first-team players for the long-term.
