Flamengo’s Joao Gomes openly says he wants to join Liverpool and the Reds are surely watching. The Brazilian is one to watch right now.

ESPN Brasil recently carried quotes from Flamengo midfielder Joao Gomes, where he expressed a desire to join Liverpool. That’s despite reports that Manchester United want the 21-year-old.

“Liverpool is a team I would play for,” said the Brazilian. “I have the greatest desire to play. Playing in the Champions League is my biggest dream and my family’s, my biggest dream in football.”

It’s an openness that you don’t typically hear from players. Gomes is a highly-rated prospect, though, and one who knows the chance to move to Europe will likely come to pass one day.

And if he’s good enough, we imagine Liverpool will give him the chance. They’ll certainly be watching.

Joao Gomes wants to join Liverpool

Liverpool appear to have plenty of interest when it comes to young Brazilian talents. One of the most recent they’ve been linked with is Endrick, with both Sky Sports and journalist Jorge Nicola making that claim.

But there’s also the Telegraph claiming a few months ago that they tried to sign Vinicius Jr back when he was just a teenager making waves in Brazil. They did the same for Rodrygo, says Santos’s Elano, and actually had a deal before the Brazilian side backed out.

And so we know that Liverpool will know all about Gomes. They’ll watch him, see if he’s capable of playing in Red and potentially make an offer. If his dream truly is to play at Anfield for Liverpool, the opportunity is there.

That’s one of the most incredible things about Liverpool’s scouting network. They do find these players if they’re out there and it’s very rare that we wonder why the Reds weren’t involved for someone.

“He is a player that has a unique characteristic in our squad in the offensive and defensive ball battles. He is very strong physically,” said manager Paulo Sousa in April via Globo.

If Gomes is good enough and on the market, Liverpool will be there.
