Harvey Elliott says he’s already planning to end his career at Liverpool. The teenager signed a new contract on Thursday.

Liverpool announced on Thursday that Harvey Elliott has a new long-term contract with the club. The 19-year-old commits his future until 2027 in what is a fantastic move for the Reds.

But it seems that Elliott isn’t quite done there. This is just the start, he believes, as the player hopes to actually end his career with Liverpool down the line.

“Hopefully my career ends here,” he told Liverpoolfc.com. “This is why I’ve come here, to be honest, just to make sure I establish myself in this team and play as much as I can for Liverpool.

“That’s all I want to do, I just want to put the shirt on, go out and play and just enjoy myself because at the end of the day I was playing in the back garden as a kid in a Liverpool shirt.

“[I was] scoring goals and pretending to be these players and now I’m playing with them. It’s memories I want to write myself and look back on in years to come and think, ‘Yeah, what a dream’ and happy that I’ve dreamt my dream and achieved it.”

Now, there’s a very long time to go before Elliott needs to end his career. If he has anything like the longevity of James Milner, for instance, we could be talking nearly 20 years away.

An awful lot can change in that time, of course. Elliott could fall out of love with the club, the Reds could slide down the table and not off the same challenge, or he simply might not make it. He’s still only 19, after all.

But that’s just the most negative take possible. It’s unquestionably positive to hear such a talented young player commit himself to the club like this. Elliott isn’t the only one, either – Trent Alexander-Arnold has made no secret of similar plans.

What we know for sure is that Elliott’s future looks remarkably bright. If he fulfils his potential, there’s little doubt that Liverpool would be thrilled to have his entire career.
