There’s plenty of transfer interest in Nat Phillips, according to reports. Liverpool have set their asking price for the centre-back.

This comes from the Athletic. They claim that Liverpool have an asking price of £10m on Nat Phillips for him to leave this month.

It’s a price that seemingly works, too. The report claims ‘plenty of interest’ in Phillips right now, suggesting someone will manage to strike a deal before September rolls around.

There has been transfer talk around Phillips all summer long but little news of strong interest. As time ticks away, Liverpool’s relatively low asking price could secure a late move for the 25-year-old.

Transfer interest in Nat Phillips

We didn’t really think Phillips would still be around at this point. That’s not meant as an insult, either – it’s astounding that no clubs have pushed to sign him.

This is a player who helped Bournemouth secure promotion last season, seemingly eliminating any doubts about his quality. Couple that with his work to get Liverpool a third-place finish in 2021 and you’d think someone would have had a punt by now.

Instead, Phillips remains with Liverpool and there’s even been some talk that Jurgen Klopp would keep him as a fifth-choice centre-back. Rhys Williams leaving on loan certainly opens the door in that regard.

But it’s difficult to see how that truly benefits Phillips. He’s now 25 and should be entering his prime years, not struggling to even find space on Liverpool’s bench. The defender is good enough to play against AC Milan at San Siro and catch the eye – why should he be in the stands most weeks?

Especially if Liverpool only want £10m. There’s got to be a club that can pay that and secure a very talented defender who now boasts decent experience. Surely, someone picks him up before the end of the month.
