Rio Ferdinand loved what he saw from Harvey Elliott vs Fulham on Saturday. The Liverpool youngster shone from the bench.
Liverpool were pretty awful against Fulham at the weekend. It was about as sluggish a start to a Premier League season as we can imagine and one the Reds must rectify quickly.
But that’s not to say there weren’t positives. Most of Liverpool’s substitutes were worth noting, in fact, with James Milner and Darwin Nunez both making wonderful impressions.
And they weren’t the only ones. Harvey Elliott also put in a notable showing, coming on at the same time as Nunez. He left a fine impression on Rio Ferdinand, in fact.
“He impacted the game when he came on,” Ferdinand told his FIVE YouTube channel. “I thought his rotations with [Mohamed] Salah and Trent [Alexander-Arnold] on the right-hand side were something we’ll see a lot more of.
“Well, I hope to see much more of him this season. He gives them that creativity that’s different.”

The exciting thing about Elliott on Saturday was that he looked impressive without looking anywhere near his best. This wasn’t a perfect performance by any means and not that much came off for him.
And yet, he was an exciting change of pace. As Ferdinand says, his rhythm with Salah and Alexander-Arnold is particularly notable – as it’s something Liverpool worked on last summer. The long-term plan has always been for those three to form a very dangerous triple-threat down the right flank.
Not only that but Jurgen Klopp quite obviously sees a combination between Nunez and Elliott. We think the two of them could be very dangerous together, even at this early stage.
So in other words, the future for Elliott looks incredibly bright. He’s impressing on his own, all while forming magnificent relationships with teammates.
By the end of the season, he could be a truly fantastic player.
