Report claims that Jurgen Klopp will be able to call on returning 26-year-old vs Crystal Palace

Kostas Tsimikas is set to hand Liverpool a boost for their meeting with Crystal Palace, according to reports. The defender has been out.

This comes from Goal. They report that Kostas Tsimikas should return for Liverpool imminently and take a place against Crystal Palace.

That place will almost certainly be on the bench, of course, but it’s a boost for the Reds nonetheless. Injuries continue to bite, with Thiago the latest player to miss time.

He joins Tsimikas, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Curtis Jones, Naby Keita, Ibrahima Konaté and Calvin Ramsay on the absentee list. Tsimikas’s return, then – along with Keita’s – seriously improves Jurgen Klopp’s options against Palace.

Andy Robertson will start at Anfield but having Tsimikas as cover gives Jurgen Klopp one less thing to worry about. At the very least, he doesn’t need to consider James Milner his backup at left back and can freely use the veteran midfielder to cover the middle.

But then, the way injuries are hitting Liverpool, perhaps Robertson is the next to go. It seems that Klopp can’t catch a break right now – every game brings something new and leaves the squad shorter.

It comes right as the Premier League move towards five substitutes, too. Squads with more depth carry a major advantage now and Liverpool are one of those. Or at least, would be if they weren’t in this mini-injury-crisis.

The Reds know full well, however, that something like this can escalate quickly and ruin your season. It happened two years ago at centre-back and right now, the worry is in midfield.

Tsimikas certainly doesn’t ease those concerns directly but the more options Klopp has, the more he can rotate players and ease pressure on them. We imagine, for instance, that Tsimikas does get on against Palace and Robertson is afforded a bit of rest.
