Burnley boss Vincent Kompany is reportedly keen to sign Sepp van den Berg from Liverpool. He faces serious interest from Germany, however.

This comes from the Athletic. They claim that Vincent Kompany is now keen to sign Sepp van den Berg on loan this summer. Burnley have no deal with Liverpool, however, and this one promises to rumble on a bit longer.

Particularly as there’s ‘serious interest’ from Germany in the Dutch defender. It seems this one will solely come down to Liverpool’s belief in his development.

There’s no doubt that Van den Berg has talent – but where will it flourish? 18 months with Preston North End went wonderfully well but the next step is a very important one.

Liverpool will not want to get this one wrong.

Vincent Kompany keen to sign Van den Berg

Kompany certainly knows a talented defender when he sees one and it reflects brilliantly on Van den Berg that he holds an interest. After all, Burnley are chasing promotion this season after their relegation in the last campaign.

The fact that they’d like Van den Berg, then, shows how well the Preston loan went. It’ll be a very tempting destination from Liverpool’s point of view – a chance for their youngster to play at the top of the Championship. That went very well for Neco Williams last season, for one.

But it would also mean Van den Berg learns under one of the best defenders of the last decade. That’s potentially a wonderful thing as they look for the Dutchman to move up another level.

The big question, then, is who are the German clubs? We’re not exactly predicting Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund here but the right move could see Van den Berg play regularly in one of Europe’s best leagues. That might just prove better than the Burnley loan.

This is all positive, then. It sounds as though Van den Berg will get a fantastic move this season, with nothing but positive destinations to choose from.
