Liverpool are preparing a bid for Inter Milan’s Croatian midfielder Marcelo Brozovic.
That’s according to Calciomercatoweb, who claim that The Reds are ‘preparing an assault’ to sign the 29-year-old.
As part of that offer, Liverpool could reportedly include either Roberto Firmino or Naby Keita.
It’s claimed that although Brozovic is seen as a key player for Inter, their desire for ‘economic sustainability’ means that no one is untransferable. As a result, Liverpool ‘remain on guard’ to his availability.
Liverpool may need a midfielder, but it isn’t Marcelo Brozovic
Liverpool’s need for a new midfielder could just have become a whole lot more urgent. Thiago Alcantara hobbling out of The Reds’ season opener was the last thing supporters wanted to see. But that’s exactly what happened.
As a result, Liverpool could now already be three players light in the middle of the park. After Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Curtis Jones, Thiago would represent the hat-trick.
Still, Jurgen Klopp has remained steadfast in his insistence that his squad doesn’t need another midfielder. Should Thiago be out for any considerable amount of time though, that position could be seriously put to the test.
But even if Klopp decides to change his position, it would seem entirely unrealistic that Brozovic would be a target.
The Croatia international is a super player, of that there’s no doubt. Then manager Antonio Conte said he had the potential to be ‘world class’ via Fotmob in 2019.
But He’s thirty in November. He also only recently signed a contract until 2026 and as the report suggests, he’s one of Inter’s best players.
For all of those reasons, you’d think he would be some way down Liverpool’s list of targets.
If they are planning to raid Inter for a central-midfield player, they’d do well to adjust their sights to Nicolo Barella.
As for swapping either of the two players mentioned, file that under never going to happen. £29m man Firmino has reportedly been on Juventus’ radar, but reports that he could leave Liverpool have been dismissed.
