Virgil Van Dijk and Adrian have both reacted to Liverpool teammate Ibrahima Konate‘s injury news yesterday.
There was bad news about the Liverpool player, as Konate confirmed his injury on his Instagram page.
And responding to their teammate’s post, Van Dijk and Adrian sent their well wishes. Van Dijk had no words for his central defensive partner, opting instead to send a simple love heart emoji.
Adrian, meanwhile, wrote a touching message for the 23-year-old. “You will come back stronger than ever hermano,” wrote the veteran goalkeeper.
Get well soon, Ibou!
Transfer plans altered after Konate blow?
The injury is a real blow to Konate and Liverpool ahead of the new season. Big things were expected of the Frenchman in 2022/23 after a stellar debut campaign at Anfield.
There still hasn’t been any proper indication of how long the centre-back will be out of action for. Fingers crossed it isn’t too bad, and he’ll be back in the coming weeks.
Either way, it could have an impact on the future of a couple of Liverpool’s back-up centre-backs.
Nat Phillips has long been expected to leave the club during this window. Interest in his services have reportedly intensified to that end throughout this week.
But Konate’s injury could have changed that. The 25-year-old may now have a role to play between now and Konate’s return, and perhaps he’ll be moved on in January instead.
Should Liverpool feel they need to squeeze a fee out of Phillips, that could mean a chance for Sepp van den Berg. The 20-year-old has been training with the first-team during pre-season and has impressed in one or two games.
He has reportedly courted loan interest, but nothing concrete has materialised as of yet.
As always, one player’s misfortune can lead to good exposure for another. Konate will certainly be missed during his time on the treatment table. But Liverpool have some interesting options in his stead.
