'Right at home': Nunez names the four Liverpool players who have helped him settle in

Darwin Nunez picked out four Liverpool teammates who have really helped him settle since joining the club. The striker is fitting in well.

Darwin Nunez is enjoying his start with Liverpool – a match-winning performance on your competitive debut will always help with that. The £64m signing from Benfica carries a hefty reputation, largely thanks to that fee, but he’s made as good a first impression as you really can.

Above all, he just looks like a wonderful fit. It’s remarkably easy to see how Nunez slots into Liverpool’s playing style, while his early understanding with teammates looks good.

So why is that? Nunez puts it down to four players, in particular, who have helped him settle in at the club.

“[Roberto] Firmino, Fabinho, Luis Diaz and Fabio [Carvalho], who only arrived recently too,” Nunez told Liverpoolfc.com. “Then the rest of my teammates too, they all made me feel right at home, all of them.

“I don’t speak or really understand English but being honest, we are making each other understand using sign language!

“It was the South Americans who helped me the most at that time when it came to integrating with the rest of the group. But it’s going well.

“Even now they’re the guys who I tend to get together with the most because then I can maintain a fluent conversation because I can hardly speak a word of English to you right now.”

Darwin Nunez clicks with Liverpool teammates

Of course, bringing in a South American means your group of South Americans will likely click with him first. Or more importantly, the Spanish and Portuguese speakers – that explains how Carvalho got in there, anyway.

It’s such a vitally important thing with any new signing, especially from a new culture. Liverpool, though, have a wide array of players at the club now – which, to be fair, is the norm at big clubs now.

And it’s incredibly helpful when trying to integrate a player like Nunez, where so much rides on him being a success. Everything is pointing in the right direction now, though – and we can’t wait to see where things go from here.
