Young Liverpool full-back Luke Chambers received the congratulations of his more senior teammates after scoring in training yesterday.

As seen on LFCTV’s Inside Training video, the Liverpool prospect scored a lovely goal with his right-foot.

Weaving past Roberto Firmino, Chambers placed a perfectly weighted side-footed finish beyond Marcelo Pitaluga.

The goal garnered an instant reaction from Chambers’ watching teammates who cheered and ‘oohed’ as the goal went in. “Love it!” said one, while “Great finish” could also be heard. Nice going, Luke.

Chambers sees a route to the first-team open up

Chambers may have expected to return to the underage groups after Liverpool’s pre-season schedule came to a close.

Although he impressed in parts of the friendly games, he struggled a little on Sunday against Strasbourg.

The game looked like an admission that the 18-year-old wasn’t quite ready for the first-team. But credit to the youngster, he recovered from his early mistake at Anfield at rallied in the second-half.

That concluded a summer of good progress for the Preston-born defender. Prior to this summer he would have been an unknown to many Liverpool fans. But he’ll be on their radar now as he looks to kick on next season.

It’s unlikely that regular football will come with the first-team in 2022/23. But with Kostas Tsimikas currently out injured, he’s got a route into the senior side. Should anything happen to Andy Robertson, Chambers is currently next in line.

Such is the Scotsman’s record, that seems unlikely to happen. Jurgen Klopp has also indicated that Tsimikas isn’t far away from returning to training.

But for the time being, Chambers has his chance. If this little clip is anything to go by, he’s doing his best to seize it with both hands.
