'I can't wait': Jurgen Klopp says he's seriously excited to see 25-year-old in Liverpool training soon

Jurgen Klopp is seriously excited to see Diogo Jota back in training for Liverpool in the near future.

Klopp was asked about Jota’s new contract during his pre-Fulham press conference on Liverpool FC’s YouTube channel. And the boss said he ‘can’t wait’ to work with the player again.

“I can’t wait to work with him again,” said Klopp. “It’s good having him around because he’s quite a character really, really early in his life. He’s already a responsible person, a reasonable person, he knows what to do to be successful in different areas and it’s good to have him.”

Two years into his time at the club, Jota has grown into an influential member of the Liverpool squad. The sooner he’s back in action, the better.

Jota impresses Klopp with his character

When he was brought to the club, you could forgive Jota for being a little sheepish around his new teammates. With respect to Wolves, it’s a big jump to move to a club like Liverpool.

But straight from the off, Jota was obviously absolutely comfortable at his new level.

He scored four goals in his first three Champions League games for The Reds. That included a special hat-trick away to Atalanta.

The 25-year-old also got straight about bulldozing his way into Liverpool’s iconic front three of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane. Before long he was a fixture in the front-line.

Jota then stepped it up even further last season as he hit 21 goals in all competitions.

While his footballing ability has drawn plaudits, you really do have to admire the Portuguese’s character. Like many in the Liverpool squad, he has overcome set-backs in his career to become a really top player.

Liverpool will miss his industry and his goals while he’s out injured. According to the man himself, it’ll be ‘a few weeks’ until we see him. That time can’t come soon enough.
