'So privileged': The words FSG's president told Klopp and his coaches on signing their new Liverpool contracts

The president of FSG gave a speech as Jurgen Klopp signed his new Liverpool contract along with his coaches. It’s safe to say he was happy.

Liverpool have struck a lot of important deals this year but we can comfortably say that one stands above all. Getting Jurgen Klopp and his coaching staff to extend their contracts was incredible.

There have been many contributions to Liverpool’s success over the last seven years, of course. Klopp and his coaches stand above all, however, as they’re the ones making it all work. We were pretty terrified at the prospect of a departure in 2024, then.

Fortunately, they’re sticking around for longer, having agree to new contracts at the back end of last season. It was a fantastic – and somewhat unexpected – moment as the club made an announcement.

The deal’s stature certainly wasn’t lost on FSG president, Mike Gordon. He apparently delivered something of a speech as Klopp and his staff signed their contracts – and it sums up what it all meant to Liverpool.

“This project has been the most incredible experience of my life,” said Gordon, as revealed by Pep Lijnders in his new book. “Thank you for contributing and having this important role.

“In 2015 I was standing in front of Stevie’s restaurant and said we were going to conquer the world together. I’m not saying that happened but we are not far off.

“In life, the most precious currency we spend is our time; who we choose to spend that currency with says everything about us as people. I feel so privileged to be able to spend my currency of time with you and our group.”

‘Not far off’, indeed. The work Liverpool have done since 2015 has been sensational and in many ways, they did conquer the world. If you’re counting the Club World Cup in 2019, anyway.

The fact that there’s even more to come is exciting, then. Liverpool continue to move forward with this current group and we’ll see another assault on world football this season.

And hopefully, for many years to come.
