Thiago labelled one player the ‘most skilful in Liverpool’s squad’ as he played pass the phone with teammates. It’s quite the compliment from one of the world’s best.
Liverpool’s Twitter account posted a video this evening of the Reds’ players playing ‘pass the phone’. Essentially, you describe who you’re going to give the phone to and they do the next one.
We get Curtis Jones labelling Harvey Elliott as someone who ‘gets his haircut every two days’ and Trent Alexander-Arnold saying Fabio Carvalho is the ‘spitting image of Bruno Mars’. Joe Gomez gets called the ‘nicest’ man in the squad thanks to Andy Robertson.
All very nice, then. Thiago, though, took the opportunity to play a massive compliment to one teammate.
“I’m passing the phone to someone who is the most skilful player in our squad,” he says. We’re then greeted by a smiling Roberto Firmino, who just gives a thumbs up to end the video.
Pass the phone at Liverpool
This is the latest in a string of compliments for Firmino – and just a week after reports suggested he could leave. To be fair, his contract is up in 2023, so prepare for more speculation in that regard.
“Bobby is crucial for us,” said Jurgen Klopp recently, per Liverpoolfc.com. “Bobby is [the] heart and soul of this team.”
It doesn’t get much bigger than that but having Thiago say you’re the ‘most skilful’ at the club comes somewhat close. Liverpool boast plenty of skilful players, after all – including the Spaniard himself.

But this is something teammates have said about Firmino for years. He’s the one getting praise for training performances where he’s supposedly impossible to get the ball off of.
And in truth, Liverpool do ask Firmino to deliver impossible pieces of skill on the regular. He’s the one who draws defenders towards him and frequently needs to hold off two or three defenders at a time with his close control.
But that’s what he’s capable of. As Thiago says, there are few who can match Firmino for that kind of skill.
