Adam Lallana says he got some of his life back after leaving Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp’s training plan. The midfielder is now at Brighton.
Adam Lallana was unquestionably one of Jurgen Klopp’s favourites at Liverpool. The midfielder was already at Anfield when the German arrived but Klopp quickly took a liking.
And why wouldn’t he? Lallana was one of the most intelligent pressing players we’ve seen at Liverpool, with the technical ability to match. There were periods where he’d be one of the Reds’ key players – only injuries robbed him of a true starring role.
Lallana left Liverpool in 2020, of course, and is now at Brighton. The 34-year-old is now leading a different sort of life away from Anfield – in fact, he says he got some of his life back.
Adam Lallana after leaving Liverpool
Lallana was guesting on the Gaz’s Golf YouTube channel where he talked about an inability to play during the season at Liverpool. The Reds frequently train in the afternoon, shifting their times depending on upcoming matches.
“When [Klopp] first came in, that was sort of his model,” Lallana explained. “You’d drop the kids off, go for breakfast, but you couldn’t play golf before you trained.”
Gaz joked that Klopp may have implemented that plan specifically for that reason – and Lallana feels that isn’t too far away from the truth.
“There would have been an element of that because playing for Liverpool, it’s literally your life,” he said. “Whereas coming out of Liverpool, I feel like I’ve got a little bit more of a life back.
“Not that I didn’t enjoy it – I loved it at the time. But I love it at Brighton now for different reasons.”
It’s something we perhaps take for granted. The intensity and discipline required to make it at Liverpool is quite ridiculous – and it’s no surprise that other clubs aren’t quite on that level.
But that’s why Liverpool have to get their scouting so correct. Not every player in the world is willing or able to entirely commit their life to their profession – it’s just now how some people work. The Reds do find the right ones and Lallana was unquestionably a great fit.
We don’t blame him for enjoying his time away from it, though.
