'Rated so highly': Club's DoF is 'grateful' to Liverpool for trusting them with such a big talent

Blackburn Rovers are ‘grateful’ to Liverpool for their Tyler Morton decision. The Reds supposedly rate the player ‘so highly’.

Liverpool confirmed on Monday that Tyler Morton will spend the season with Blackburn Rovers. It’s a deal that had been in the pipeline for a while now but the Reds were waiting for their pre-season to end before releasing the player.

An injury to Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain appears to have forced that decision. Morton suddenly had a bigger role to play with the first-team squad and he started against Strasbourg on Sunday.

Now, though, he’s been able to join Blackburn as intended. Despite the wait, the Lancashire club are nothing but ‘grateful’ to Liverpool for entrusting them with such a highly-rated player.

“We are very grateful to Liverpool for trusting us with the continued development of a player who is rated so highly at the club,” said their director of football, Gregg Broughton, per the Athletic.

Tyler Morton joins Blackburn Rovers

This is a massive move for Blackburn and one that could truly transform him as a player. We know that Liverpool rate him highly, after all – he played enough last season to prove that.

Morton featured in the Premier League and Champions League for the Reds. In fact, he started in the latter against AC Milan, putting in a decent display. These performances, despite being wildly inexperienced, really establish Morton as one to watch.

Now he gets the necessary next step in his career – a chance at regular senior football. A great season in the Championship would see his stock skyrocket, perhaps even enough that Liverpool take a good look at him next summer. That’s what happened with Harvey Elliott, after all.

But it’s not that simple. We said similar things about Leighton Clarkson a year ago as he went to Blackburn. Unfortunate timing kept him out of the side, however, and he returned from his loan early. Morton, hopefully, can establish himself in ways Clarkson wasn’t able to.
