Jurgen Klopp had one particular highlight after Liverpool 3-1 Manchester City. The Reds’ boss saw something ‘exceptional’.
Jurgen Klopp has a lot to celebrate after Liverpool beat Manchester City 3-1 in the Community Shield. With that win, after all, he’s now lifted every domestic trophy in England. That’s a fairly exclusive club.
Not only that but his new £64m striker came on to change the game as Darwin Nunez both won a penalty and scored. What more can you really ask for on a competitive debut?
But Klopp found another reason to cheer, too. The German hailed the impact of his substitutes after the game, labelling them ‘exceptional’.
“Probably one of the highlights of the game, as good as we were, was the impact from the bench,” said Klopp, per Liverpoolfc.com. “[It] was really exceptional.
“Everybody who came on was immediately in the game – very, very, very helpful. A top sign. It was a good game, a good start from us.
“Then City took over [for a] while, which cost us really because we really had to run a lot. Then we could come back into the game; we had then possession and City had to run a lot and then we could finish the game with nice goals.”
Klopp loves Liverpool 3-1 Man City
This is now such a weapon in Liverpool’s arsenal. The Reds can absolutely change a game pretty much however they want with their subs.

Of course, the ability to use five subs will benefit teams like Liverpool and City. Klopp can refresh half of his outfield players without a considerable drop in quality – and we saw that at the King Power.
Nunez showed that more than anyone, of course. Harvey Elliott, James Milner, Fabio Carvalho and Curtis Jones all helped, too, though. That strength in depth unquestionably has this Liverpool team looking more dangerous than ever.
