Mohamed Salah hadn’t realised that he’d won everything possible at Liverpool until Trent Alexander-Arnold pointed it out to him last season.
Salah claimed during an interview with thefa.com that until Trent told him he had nothing left to win, he didn’t know.
“I’ve won almost everything with the team. I didn’t notice that until Trent [Alexander-Arnold] came up to me after the FA Cup Final and said, ‘By the way, we have won pretty much everything here,'” said the Egyptian.
“So I think I have won almost everything at Liverpool, collectively and individually, but there is always room to win more and I always want to win something for a second or third or fourth time. That’s my mentality.”
Liverpool aiming to go two better next season
As Mo points out, the challenge now is to win trophies on multiple occasions. That’s what will truly set this bunch of Liverpool players apart.
It’s brilliant of course that they’ve now completed the trophy haul. Six major trophies in three years is some going. But it would be a disappointment if they weren’t able to add to that over the next two or three years.
That may seem harsh, but any trophy now collected will be for a second time for many of Jurgen Klopp’s squad. For them not to add to that would be a failure considering the quality now in the team.
Having collected the two trophies that previously eluded them last season, they’ll be going for the big two again next time.
They’ve been desperately unlucky not to add to their Premier League and Champions League haul in recent years. Twice they’ve finished runners-up in both competitions since 2018. In the league both times was by a single point.
They’ll be hoping that they have a little more luck on their side as they go again in 2022/23. Last time Liverpool missed out on the league by a point they won it the next year.
Last time Liverpool lost in the Champions League final they also won it the year after.
Seeing as The Reds did both last season, we think we know what comes next…
