'It's the truth': Klopp shares what he told the whole Liverpool squad during 'big' team meeting this week

Jurgen Klopp has shared what he told the Liverpool squad during a meeting at the training camp in Austria this week.

Speaking to liverpoolfc.com, Klopp said that the Liverpool team meeting took place after the traditional initiation evening at the camp.

That was a night which the manager called a ‘great’ one. Feeding off that energy, the manager told his players that the way they interact with each other is ‘special.’

“The atmosphere was great [at the initiation event], with all the fun we had [it was] still respectful. There was some unbelievably good performances, so many unbelievable performances that we really enjoyed it and the time was flying. Nobody had a watch, or whatever, it was just great,” said the 55-year-old.

“I had a big meeting last night and I told the boys [that] I never saw something like this. It’s the truth. This is the basis we have to use. We as a group, the way we interact really with each other is something special, and we have to make sure we can use that for something big.”

Klopp takes credit for family feel at Liverpool

Aside from the trophies collected on the pitch, perhaps the best thing about Klopp’s reign at Liverpool has been the atmosphere within the club.

What had previously been a toxic atmosphere at different points over the preceding decade has now been completely restored.

Different people can claim some credit for that. Ultimately though, the buck stops with the manager. The culture that Klopp has created at Liverpool, not only in terms of winning, but also in terms of positivity has been revolutionary.

There’s no chance that The Reds would have won what they’ve won recently without such an atmosphere.

The players need to take credit for that, too. Yes, it’s easy to be positive when things are going well, but even in the relatively dark days of 2020/21, the squad kept on believing.

They’ve shaped the attitude of the manager into a culture within the dressing room. This is a squad built in Klopp’s image, where the players are not only incredible footballers, but generally good people too.

That kind of team spirit can take you a heck of a long way on its own in sport. But what you need to truly make a great team is top talent in addition to that spirit. Luckily for Liverpool, they’ve got spirit and talent in spades.

Roll on the new season, The Reds are itching to go again.
