Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson has shared a tactic that Jurgen Klopp likes to use on his players during pre-season.
Speaking to LFCTV after Liverpool beat RB Leipzig 5-0, Robertson said that Klopp likes to throw in a friendly game with little preparation every year.
“Really difficult game for us in terms of preparation, flying on the day, doing stuff that we don’t usually do,” said the 28-year-old.
“The manager always likes throwing one of them in in pre-season, coming late to the stadium, trying to rush through your preparation and things like that. But we have to deal with it, we know there’s always one of them in pre-season so we’re a bit more accustomed to it.”

It’s an interesting idea from Klopp. Perhaps the lack of build-up has a way of speeding up the player’s adaptation to ‘proper’ football again. Whatever it is, it usually works, so keep doing what you’re doing Jurgen.
Liverpool building up their fitness
If Liverpool had little preparation for last night’s game, it hardly showed. The starting eleven took barely any time at all to open the scoring, and put in a largely good display in a pretty hectic half.
Then came the real stuff, though. Darwin Nunez obviously didn’t mind the late start. He plundered four goals in quick succession to make the night a memorable one for Liverpool
It was a little bit of a surprise to see Klopp start the game with such a strong team. Many of those who started weren’t pictured in training at the start of the week.

But it was obviously all part of Klopp’s plan to expediated their fitness.
Now, the squad head to Austria for a period that Klopp has deemed ‘his time’ via The Athletic. With a week at a training camp, The Reds preparations for the season will head into the final straight
Anyone still lagging behind once the week is out can expect to find themselves out of the team when the games start up.
On the evidence of last night, a lot of players are getting where they need to be. A little fine tuning here and there, and we should be on track once more.
