Report: £20m wonderkid has no interest in a new contract, could force transfer for the Liverpool target

Aston Villa talent Carney Chukwuemeka has no interest in a new contract, according to reports. Liverpool have been linked with the player.

This comes from Sky Sports. They claim that Carney Chukwuemeka legitimately has ‘no interest’ in signing a new contract with Aston Villa. He’s looking to leave and can do so in 2023.

Chukwuemeka’s contract expires next summer, allowing him to depart on the cheap. In fact, non-English sides would only need to pay £400k in compensation – far below the £20m Villa want to sell for now.

And that brings intense pressure, of course. Villa believe they have a talent on their books who’s worth a fortune but could lose him for next to nothing. The closer we get to the season, the more likely it is that they give in and drop their asking price.

Barcelona supposedly have eyes on the situation and would like Chukwuemeka. Borussia Dortmund have enruired, too – a move the player would love.

But if the youngster truly is on the move this summer, it certainly won’t just be between those two.

Carney Chukwuemeka doesn’t want a new contract

The Guardian wrote last season that Liverpool are watching Chukwuemeka. That shouldn’t be too surprising – here’s a chance to sign an exciting, home-grown talent for well below his actual value.

It does strike us as a situation where the Reds will wait it out and look to sign Chukwuemeka at the end of his contract, however. There’s no immediate room for him in the squad, while the player may prefer taking his future into his own hands and negotiating as a free agent next summer.

But whenever he does truly become available, we’d be shocked if Liverpool weren’t enquiring. Chukwuemeka is a fantastically talented young player and his home-grown status only makes him more valuable. The Reds could strike a bargain here – if they can persuade the player.
