'It's been insane': Erling Haaland addresses Liverpool vs Man City as he prepares to enter the rivalry

Erling Haaland has given his take on the Liverpool vs Man City rivalry as he prepares to get involved in it. The Norwegian says things look ‘insane’.

Last season’s Premier League title race came down to just one point between Manchester City and Liverpool. No one was surprised. We’ve been here before, after all – the two teams push one another to remarkable degrees.

That battle has also pushed the two of them into the transfer market this summer. Intriguingly, both Liverpool and City decided to sign out-and-out centre-forwards, despite operating without such players for some time.

The Reds signed Darwin Nunez, of course, for what could end up being a club-record fee. City went and got Erling Haaland, though – and the figures behind that are incredible.

And so the rivalry enters a new phase with two star strikers leading the way. It appears clear that City’s man can’t quite wait for it, either.

Erling Haaland on Liverpool rivalry

“It’s been insane to see Klopp and Guardiola pushing each other, all the players, fans, everyone,” he said, per the Manchester Evening News. “To be outside watching this, everybody talking about it, pushing each other to the very last game.

“It’s not often that happens and I think it’s really good for England and also good for the clubs to push each other to reach the next level – it’s really important and it has been nice to watch.

“It’s good that we push each other, that’s what we want. I like it a lot.”

This is the rivalry right now – Haaland’s words only show that off. Liverpool and City have been the best two teams on the planet for a while now – at least at a domestic level.

The injection of big, physical no.9s is an interesting direction for this season, though. The two teams could actually play very differently to last season while still managing to operate in similar ways to one another. Haaland vs Nunez also seems like an obvious theme to the season, too – though, maybe a little harsh on the less-experienced Uruguayan.

Regardless, it’s an exciting season ahead as the two rivals enter a new chapter. Haaland thought it was insane just to watch – wait until he’s living it week-to-week.
