Andy Robertson has claimed that he is still yet to speak to Liverpool new-boy Darwin Nunez at any length.
Speaking to the press via liverpoolfc.com today, the left-back was asked how Nunez is settling in. Although he claimed the Uruguayan is being made to feel welcome, Robertson hasn’t spoken to him properly just yet.
“He has obviously come in, we haven’t been back for too long, but we have to let him settle in,” said the 28-year-old. “He’s looked good in training, and the Brazilian boys and everyone that speaks his language have helped him a lot. I don’t think me and him have had many conversations yet, we’ve just kind of smiled at each other, but that will come.”
Robbo went on to claim that Darwin’s performances against Liverpool last season showed just how good he can be.
“A fantastic player, we played against him and he made it really difficult for us defenders in the two games,” he said. “If he puts in those performances then he’ll be a really good player for us.”
Good people, good players at Liverpool
It may still take a little time for Darwin to fully integrate into the side. The 23-year-old has looked somewhat shy so far at Liverpool, but he’s not even a week into his time at the club yet.
Jurgen Klopp has been a master of bringing together a perfect mix of personalities at Liverpool. The group is settled and seems to benefit from having like-minded people throughout.
But even within that, there are a myriad of different characters. Some, like Robertson in particular, are more out-going and exuberant.
Others, like the legend that is Joel Matip, appear more introverted and quiet. The bottom line though is that all these players are good characters willing to learn and help each other.
The Reds recruitment team are well-known for identifying ‘good people’ as well as good players. They wouldn’t have spent such a big fee on Nunez if they had any question marks about his ability to fit in.
It will be a transition going from the likes of Almeria and Lisbon to Liverpool. But the forward will be given all the time he needs to make sure he’s settled.
Throughout that bedding-in period and beyond, his new teammates will no doubt help him every step of the way.
