Report: Liverpool do complete U-turn over 'hugely popular' player's future at Anfield, Klopp's made his decision

Liverpool now fully expect that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will remain as part of the squad next season.

That’s according to the The Express, who claim that Liverpool have done a U-turn over the 28-year-old’s future.

They claim that The Reds had been ‘preparing to offload’ Oxlade-Chamberlain this summer. But as no midfield arrivals have been forthcoming, Jurgen Klopp is reportedly ‘reluctant’ to reduce numbers further.

As a result, the England man is said to be set to stay unless a ‘respectable’ proposal comes Liverpool’s way. In that event, Oxlade-Chamberlain would reportedly be willing to asses the opportunity.

West Ham United and Aston Villa are namechecked as being two potential buyers. But The Express claim there’s ‘no substance’ to such rumours.

Ox still has plenty left to give Liverpool

Hopefully that’s Ox’s future put to bed for the remainder of the summer. Although he finished the season on the periphery of the squad, he’s still an influential figure behind the scenes.

His bubbly personality have led him to be deemed ‘hugely popular’ in the dressing room by The Mirror. After the departures of long-serving players Sadio Mane and Divock Origi, Klopp won’t want to lose another.

More than that though, he still has plenty to offer on the pitch, too. At times last season he was Liverpool’s main attacking threat.

In a midfield that often doesn’t weigh in with enough goals, Ox has more attacking instinct than most of Klopp’s options.

His Liverpool career has been a very mixed bag up to this point. High points have been tempered by injury and a lack of a consistent spot in the team.

With just a year left to go on his contract, Oxlade-Chamberlain now has a final chance to leave on a high. It feels impossible that he’ll be given a new deal, and so has added incentive to make sure he goes out in the best way possible.

He’ll need to be patient as he won’t be in Klopp’s first-choice midfield. But there’s generally a spot up for grabs alongside Thiago and Fabinho. If he can apply himself in training, he may still get the chance to play with more regularity.
