'Aim high': 19-year-old Liverpool midfielder says he can score 20 goals for the first-team next season

Liverpool youngster Harvey Elliott has claimed that he can score ’15 or 20′ Premier League goals next season.

Speaking to The Redmen TV after Liverpool’s open training session in Bangkok, Elliott was asked for his goal target in 2022/23.

“I would say hopefully maybe 15 or 20 (Premier League goals),” smiled the 19-year-old. “That’s just me being maybe a bit too confident, but you’ve got to aim high.”

You can’t knock the lad’s confidence!

Harvey aiming high, but needs to take it slow

If Elliott can deliver in the way he thinks he can, Liverpool will be absolutely laughing. At this stage, it feels more like he can expect 15 or 20 Premier League games rather than goals.

Most of that game-time is also likely to come from the middle of the pitch. We know the England U21 star can play wide-right. But Jurgen Klopp obviously sees him playing in Liverpool’s midfield three.

If he’s able to force his way into the team and score 15 or 20 goals from midfield, he’ll be in Ballon d’Or conversations, let alone anything else.

Still, it gives an indication of just how good Elliott thinks he can be. Sometimes in young players this can lead to arrogance and complacency.

But Elliott clearly loves playing for Liverpool. He’s also aware of his own limitations. Something he pointed out when he was out of the side towards the end of last season.

All in all, it’s a huge season for Liverpool’s ‘little diamond.’ It’s easy to forget that he’s still only nineteen, but he needs to start kicking on if he’s to realise the potential he so obviously has.

It isn’t easy to command a place in this great Liverpool side. Of course it’s good to aim high, but if Elliott can just make steps towards doing that in 2022/23, he’ll have had a good season.
