Dayot Upamecano is available to buy again, according to reports. Liverpool supposedly wanted the player in 2021.
This come from 90min. They claim that Dayot Upamecano is available to buy once again, just a year after Bayern Munich signed the player.
The reason? They’re after Matthijs de Ligt, who is suddenly available to buy from Juventus. Bayern can use a sale to fund a move for the Dutchman and Chelsea have apparently been ‘alerted’.
Chelsea are very much in the market for a centre-back after both Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen left the club. They hoped to sign De Ligt but appear to be losing out to Bayern. Fortunately, the Bavarians are willing to offer a consolation prize.
Dayot Upamecano is available again
Bayern only signed Upamecano a year ago from RB Leipzig. In fact, they sought off competition for his signature in Liverpool, who reportedly rated him highly.
Journalist Guido Schafer who talked to the Liverpool Echo last June and explained that Jurgen Klopp needed advice on the player. Should he sign Upamecano or his Leipzig teammate Ibrahima Konaté? He asked his friend, Ralf Rangnick who told him ‘to sign both’.
“Liverpool were in contact for many months,” said Schafer. “Klopp asked Ralf Rangnick a couple of years ago: ‘who is the better player: Dayot Upamecano or Konate?”

“Rangnick told Jurgen ‘when you are able to buy both, buy both’”.
Well, now Klopp might actually have that chance. Upamecano is seemingly on the market again and Liverpool offer a reunion with Konaté.
Of course, it’s highly unlikely at this stage and the timing couldn’t be worse. Liverpool have just renewed Joe Gomez’s contract, while it makes no sense to move on either Virgil van Dijk or Joel Matip. In a year? Perhaps the Reds fancy signing Upamecano to replace Matip but that’s the only way we see this happening.
