Marco Asensio now costs £42m, according to reports out of Spain. Real Madrid set their price for the Liverpool target.
This comes from the Spanish outlet ABC. They claim that Real Madrid would now want £42m in order to sell Marco Asensio.
It comes after the player continues on a complicated and fairly confusing path. Asensio’s contract expires in 2023 and Real Madrid don’t want to lose him for free. At the same time, he wants first-team football that he isn’t getting at Real.
But Los Blancos won’t give him regular football unless he signs a new deal. At this point, it all seems cut and dry – Asensio should look to leave the club as he can’t play regularly where he is.
Only, the player is open to a renewal if he gets guarantees over his playing time. It seems highly unlikely that Real will give him that, though, as he’s currently lower in the pecking order than Rodrygo – a player significantly younger than him and who just signed a bumper new contract.
Thus Real won’t sell Asensio on the cheap as there’s still a chance he renews his deal.
Marco Asensio now costs £42m
This has been a very confusing story for some time now, really. Sport, for instance, recently claimed that Asensio could leave for £21m but it appears that’s only if he actively pursues a transfer. Telling Real that he won’t renew would lower his price to that.
And lurking in the background are Liverpool. AS – among just about every outlet in Spain – believes the Reds want Asensio. That’s a strange on in of itself, though, as we don’t know how the player would play regularly at Anfield either.
At £42m, though? No chance. It seems like this one will continue to run and run.
